What Is An RSS Feed?
An RSS feed is a file that contains frequently updated information, such as news headlines, and other posts that can be subscribed to using a variety of programs called feed readers or aggregators. RSS (short for Really Simple Syndication) is the most common feed format.
OAES provides RSS feeds of our most recently-updated content. A feed reader can subscribe to many feeds allowing you to view the most recent information from a variety of sources besides our school site without visiting all of the originating web sites.
Using Internet Explorer
Most of our users come to our web site using Internet Explorer. IE has a pretty slick feed reader built into the browser. From our home page, use the IE shortcut of Alt+J. Or click on the link to the RSS feed on the top right of our homepage, pictured below:
IE will open the feed in a separate browser window.
From there, subscribe to the feed by clicking on the Subscribe to this feed link and then clicking on the Subscribe button in the small IE confirmation window which opens automatically:
In the future you just go to your Favorites Center (Alt+C) and choose the Feeds button:
Then choose the Osan Elementary School Feed to get the latest news from school.
Setting up a Newsreader
For the ultimate in leveraging this feature, you can have the OAES News Feed sent directly to your preferred feed reader. Use the link in the grey box on the top right of this page, or click here, to set up some of the more popular feed readers. We hope you put this new feature to good use.
